Nothing Goes With Organized Labor Like BBQ

So, It's spring in Lancaster and that means a few things, it means storms, weird weather and strange vacillating temperatures. Almost all of those have wind as a byproduct. We had purchased a $2 kite and thought now is the time to do our best Benjamin Franklin impression. Z was happy to be flying it, I was happy to have gotten it off the ground and A was happy T would keep him warm.
Also we decided that just because the class was over (she got an A) didn't mean we had to turn in to do-nothings. So we looked up a few activities in the area and how they might relate to eating exceptional food. We found a BBQ Joint in Tehachapi that was supposedly epic. It happened to be right near the Cesar Chavez Museum and Gravesite and the world famous Tehachapi Loop A Railway Wonder and engineering marvel in the late 1800's that is still in use today. You can see a train cross over itself. We set off and arrived at the Chavez Center first. It cost money to go inside and we are poor so we didn't go in but we enjoyed the fruits of their fieldwork labor (gardens) for free (oh man the irony here is thick)
The kids enjoyed pine cone hunting and running around like maniacs.
Next we went ot the loop but by the time we got there there was a MINI (car) mini convention going on and no trains so we looked and left for the Red House BBQ.
The food was AMAZING. Really really good. By itself it was worth the drive. The place was real classy with people writing all over the walls and signs like. "Hippy use the backdoor only" and "Guns don't kill people, Fathers with daughters kill people" The weather was perfect so we ate outdoors near the giant smoker shed. It was so good. After the meal we let the kids run around for a while.
But that quickly turned ugly.
So we started the drive home. On the way Aiden thought it was funny to stick his hand down his throat. I tried to warn him about the dangers of Baby Bulemia but he wouldn't listen. The result was predictable so we pulled over and cleaned him up. Then drove the rest of the way home. I think the rest of the weekend will be a little more low key. Crazy Z Pic of the week.
Till next time, the dude abides. RTSZA p.s. All the orangish words are clickable links (and totally worth it) and all the pictures are clickable to see larger.

Craig would like that train thing, because he is obsessed. I love me some good bbq. I hate it when Charlotte gags herself. I haven't let her get to the point of barfing yet, but she has never tried when I am driving...

I'm jealous of all the fun things you guys are doing! I can't wait until Dan is done with his attic project.
I want some good BBQ.

Tehachapi looks pretty, and it's also a cool-sounding word.
