Nothing Goes With Organized Labor Like BBQ

So, It's spring in Lancaster and that means a few things, it means storms, weird weather and strange vacillating temperatures. Almost all of those have wind as a byproduct. We had purchased a $2 kite and thought now is the time to do our best Benjamin Franklin impression. Z was happy to be flying it, I was happy to have gotten it off the ground and A was happy T would keep him warm.
Also we decided that just because the class was over (she got an A) didn't mean we had to turn in to do-nothings. So we looked up a few activities in the area and how they might relate to eating exceptional food. We found a BBQ Joint in Tehachapi that was supposedly epic. It happened to be right near the Cesar Chavez Museum and Gravesite and the world famous Tehachapi Loop A Railway Wonder and engineering marvel in the late 1800's that is still in use today. You can see a train cross over itself. We set off and arrived at the Chavez Center first. It cost money to go inside and we are poor so we didn't go in but we enjoyed the fruits of their fieldwork labor (gardens) for free (oh man the irony here is thick)
The kids enjoyed pine cone hunting and running around like maniacs.
Next we went ot the loop but by the time we got there there was a MINI (car) mini convention going on and no trains so we looked and left for the Red House BBQ.
The food was AMAZING. Really really good. By itself it was worth the drive. The place was real classy with people writing all over the walls and signs like. "Hippy use the backdoor only" and "Guns don't kill people, Fathers with daughters kill people" The weather was perfect so we ate outdoors near the giant smoker shed. It was so good. After the meal we let the kids run around for a while.
But that quickly turned ugly.
So we started the drive home. On the way Aiden thought it was funny to stick his hand down his throat. I tried to warn him about the dangers of Baby Bulemia but he wouldn't listen. The result was predictable so we pulled over and cleaned him up. Then drove the rest of the way home. I think the rest of the weekend will be a little more low key. Crazy Z Pic of the week.
Till next time, the dude abides. RTSZA p.s. All the orangish words are clickable links (and totally worth it) and all the pictures are clickable to see larger.

End Of the Road.

So, This past weekend we ventured into the city again to hand in T's class work that we have been compiling through all of the trips in the last month or so. Since there was no real "class" the lady asked students to meet her at griffith park in LA. That is right next to the LA Zoo so we decided to make a day out of it. Here, the fam walks to hand in the A+ work.
The Zoo wasn't open yet and there was some sort of thing going on so we hung around for a bit.
Eventually the Zoo opened. Turns out it was Earth Day and there were booths with sponsors and things. One of them painted faces for free.
We walked around and took in some sights, scents, and sounds.
As you can see the animals were up close and friendly this time around. A got up close to a large lizard and an orangutan. Z got right up next to a gorilla who played a bit of a game with her.
When Z would look the gorilla wouldn't but then when Z looked away the gorilla would look at her. The gorilla even got up and banged on its chest but there was a crowd around (and in the cameras way) by the time that happened. We drove home and all fell asleep.
Since then we've been busy with walks and making the kids eat food they haven't tried before. Turns out Aiden hates the wind really likes indian food.
This is all for now. RTSZA

Post Easter Easter REDUX: The Final Installment in the Trilogy

So, We had the spoil rottens up for a week after easter easter egg hunt. They came up on saturday and we went shopping and had a rather successful meal out. Let's just say whether or not our kids will decide to eat, scream, throw things or sit quietly is often up in the air while eating out. We also had another easter egg hunt, that means more candy and more running around and MORE PICTURES!
Here is the result of all of that candy, a little something to give you nightmares.
That is all- -RTSZA_

Post Easter Post. Pre our Post Easter Easter Celebration!

So, As promised here are our Easter shots. Our friends down the street threw a little dinner/ egg hunt/ kids play fun thing and we decided to go to that. T's parents will be coming up this weekend so we're gonna have a post easter easter with them. For now here are the shots. They had lots of toys and things for the kids to play with.
Then we lined up all of the kids for the egg hunting and sent them off.
After the egg hunting there was a tradition of smashing confetti eggs all over everyone and everything.
After a party like that they needed a break.
It was super fun. The kid had a great time and it's really nice to hang out with good folks in the neighborhood. RTSZA
